Todd Warden, MD, is a residency trained emergency physician who has parlayed his inquisitive mind and medical training, his desire for information, and his facility with technology into a successful medical information service for healthcare entities. Todd began his medical career after graduating summa cum laude from Princeton University and receiving his medical education at Northwestern Medical School in Chicago. He completed residency training at Medical College of Pennsylvania, where he served as Chief Resident. He has worked as a staff emergency physician and as EM Medical Director for a number of Emergency Departments in the greater Delaware Valley. Todd gained solid business experience first as Medical Director for a regional EM group and later as Executive Vice President for two national EM organizations. During this time he managed over 400 full and part-time physicians and close to 40 client service contracts and was responsible for almost 80 million dollars of revenue. Todd saw the need and had the opportunity to create solutions for operational issues for the EDs that he served, gaining an understanding of database theory and expertise in RDMS (Relational Database Management Systems). Todd resigned from the corporate world in 2000 to establish his company, Emergenuity, Inc. He was immediately contracted to direct two EDs and had the opportunity to use the tools he had created, which improved the EDs' performance and physician accountability.

As "Chief Medical Information Architect" for the two EDs, Todd designed and implemented a multi-site departmental "Patient Resource Management System" which permits comparison of individual hospital departmental performance against industry standards. The System also allows profiling of individual physicians both intradepartmental and interdepartmental. The "Patient Resource Management System" was highlighted in two national scientific presentations and two publications. Todd has also implemented the "Five Care/Financial Strategies" for EM physician groups. These strategies incorporate zero tolerance for denials, for diversions, and for patient leaving without being seen, along with enforcement of CMS observation rules and adherence to clinical guidelines. Such strategies have proven to help the hospital maintain financial viability as the ED physicians act as the ultimate gatekeeper.

With the recent recommendations by the Institute of Medicine, Quality Integration by CMS, and in reviewing the testimony to the House Ways and Means Committee by David Brailer, M.D., Ph.D., National Health Information Technology Coordinator, it has become clear to Todd that healthcare is in a new era of high expectations for patient care and patient safety. These phenomenon are driving Emergenuity to find a better way to transition to mandatory reporting and the development of electronic solutions. No longer is it "OK" to treat patients ineffectively, then 30 days later document it by chart review, and report the non-compliance to CMS for public posting. Because of Todd's vision, Emergenuity has now partnered with a technology company to create "event-driven," real-time solutions to assure patient safety by creating compliance with clinical guidelines, and secondarily, improve reports sent to CMS. This is not new software or applications; it is technology that acknowledges the value of existing hospital systems and utilizes investments already made in application, software, and labor. It is thus that the mission of Emergenuity, Inc. is fulfilled: - "to take full advantage of emerging technologies and making data more assessable to clinicians for the betterment of healthcare."
