Symptoms of EDO
ED Overcrowding (EDO) is a national epidemic wasting money, resources and putting patients at clinical risk.
There is virtually no Emergency Department that has not been affected by EDO and no person that has been
impacted either personally or professionally. Some of the signs and symptoms of EDO are:
- Long waits in the ED
- Deteriorating clinical outcomes and safety metrics
- Delays in patient treatment leading to clinical deterioration of patients
- Increased exposure to denied days and retroactive payments
- Patient dissatisfaction with care resulting in a poor reputation in the community
- Increasing numbers of patients leaving without being seen (LWBS)
- Increasing ambulance diversions
- Holding more patients for admission in the ED
